Art galleries are museums, either public or private, which display art. Many websites are true galleries. Typically these spaces show paintings and sculpture, but very often they have displays of other art form such as movies, poetry reading and concerts. Very often art galleries are themselves works of art. The Guggenheim in New York is such an example. It is a cylindrical building with a spiral walkway around the inside. Besides being great and unusual architecture, painting can be observed up close, and also across the entire diameter of the building. That goes for web sites as well. Most artists will create their own site, and they usually put as much effort into their site as they do into their work. Gallery is also a word used for the individual rooms in a museum, but that’s not the way the word is being used here. There are different types of privately owned galleries. Most interesting are those run by artist’s themselves. These are typically of the co-op type. You will find many levels of quality in these, but its especially fun to visit, as some of the artists displaying are often there, and they all love e to chat about their work.
